Police say her boyfriend had tried to intervene to stop the rape, but the migrant had knocked him unconscious.
“After several hours, the woman and the witness managed to leave the location and call the police,” the police said.
According to a report from German newspaper Soester-Anzeiger, the couple was only able to escape once the Algerian man fell asleep after hours of rape. The building is a well-known location for homeless and transient people. Police report that the woman is also likely homeless.
Once the couple reported the crime, the police were able to arrive on scene and arrest the man inside the abandoned building. They identified the suspect as living in a refugee accommodation (ZUE) in Soest. Police also found a knife in his possession.
The migrant was already wanted for another crime and was on probation, according to a police spokesperson.
A police source told Focus Magazine: “He is well known to the police.”
The Algerian already has convictions for bodily harm, robbery and theft; however, he has no charge related to sexual crimes on his record.
The Algerian is now being charged with rape. The Arnsberg public prosecutor has obtained a warrant from the district court.
The 20-year-old is currently undergoing medical and psychological treatment. There is no medical information about her male partner who was knocked unconscious.
