Top actor Laurence Fishburne sat down with astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson in a recent podcast where the Hollywood icon described how his legendary film “The Matrix” is a story about the life of Jesus Christ.

The pair mentioned the movie’s character “Cypher” representing Judas, who betrays the Jesus-inspired role “Neo,” who is known as “the chosen one.”

Fishburne’s “Matrix” character “Morpheus” represents John The Baptist, who knew Jesus was coming, the actor explained.

Popular 𝕏 host Dom Lucre listed the film’s characters alongside their biblical inspirations:

  • Neo = The One – A savior who awakens to his true identity and sacrifices himself to free humanity.
  • Morpheus = The Believer – Much like John the Baptist, he prepares the way, full of unwavering faith.
  • Trinity = The Faithful – Her devotion mirrors Mary Magdalene, loyal and present through every trial.
  • Cypher = The Betrayer – Like Judas, he trades truth for comfort and chooses the illusion over freedom.
