33-year-old Oscar Solarzano was arrested in connection with a Friday night stabbing on North Carolina’s Charlotte Area Transit System Blue Line light rail.
The victim was taken to the hospital with serious injuries after Mecklenburg paramedics arrived on the scene.
President Trump commented on the stabbing, noting the incident took place just months after Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska was stabbed and killed by a career criminal on the Charlotte train system.
“Another stabbing by an Illegal Migrant in Charlotte, North Carolina. What’s going on in Charlotte? Democrats are destroying it, like everything else, piece by piece!!!” he wrote.
Former nuclear scientist and major brand photographer-turned-citizen journalist Matt Van Swol pointed out the suspect is a previously deported illegal immigrant being labeled a “white male” in arrest documents.
WCNC reports, “CMPD said Solarzano was ‘quickly apprehended’ after the stabbing and taken to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, where he was charge with attempted first degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, breaking and entering of a motor vehicle, carrying a concealed weapon, and intoxicated and disruptive.”
According to court records, Solarzano was intoxicated, challenged the victim to a fight, and screamed at other passengers before the assault.
A witness told WCNC, “I heard people starting to scream scream ‘he has a knife, they’re fighting,’ and then [the victim who was stabbed] started walking towards the side I was sitting on, holding his chest where he got stabbed. I was able to see the emergency lever, so I pulled it and the doors opened, and that stopped the train and I jumped off.”
An attorney for Iryna Zarutska’s family said, “The fact that there was another stabbing on the light rail committed by someone who had apparently been banned continues to show that there is no fare enforcement on our light rail system. Clearly security is still lacking to protect our citizen riders of our public transportation.”
Assistant Secretary Dept. of Homeland Security Tricia McLaughlin wrote on 𝕏, “Oscar Gerardo Solorzano-Garcia, an illegal alien from Honduras, is being charged with attempted first-degree murder after he stabbed a victim with a large knife on a train in Charlotte, North Carolina. ICE lodged a detainer to ensure this criminal illegal is not released back into North Carolina neighborhoods. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee the county will honor the detainer since they have a history of not cooperating with ICE.”
“His criminal history includes prior arrests for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, destroying evidence, resisting arrest, using a false ID, and convictions for robbery and illegally re-entry. This criminal illegal alien was issued a final order of removal by an immigration judge in 2018 and removed by the Trump Administration on March 9, 2018. He was apprehended illegally crossing the border again in 2021 and was again removed. He entered the country illegally for a THIRD time at an unknown date and location.”
