According to a police statement, the victim and several acquaintances were approached by a group speaking “Syrian” [possibly Arabic, ed. note].
The attackers allegedly confronted them without any apparent reason. One man from the group stabbed the 24-year-old, causing a wound that required emergency medical treatment. The victim was taken to a hospital by Vienna’s professional rescue service.
The suspected perpetrators—reportedly five individuals—fled the scene in an unknown direction. An immediate search by the police was unsuccessful.
The Vienna State Criminal Police Office, Central/East branch, has taken over the investigation.
The Halloween stabbing follows a series of violent attacks in Austria. Earlier, Syrian teenagers also robbed and assaulted a 12-year-old in Fünfhaus.
A 16-year-old girl was injured in a knife attack near a school in Brigittenau, prompting a major police operation. In a separate incident, a 25-year-old woman was found critically injured in another stabbing.
