A Marine captain has been fired after mocking the murder of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.
Captain Jacoby Williamson, who had been with the Marines since 2013, posted an Instagram story featuring a segment from Kirk’s show called “DEI in the cockpit,” about the dangers of diversity hires being given pilots’ jobs.
“Another racist man popped,” Williamson captioned the post, adding an emoji that represents someone making a toast.
The post was brought to the attention of the Pentagon by the Twitter account LibsOfTikTok, who asked Secretary of War Pete Hegseth to “fire this lunatic.”
Williamson’s firing was later confirmed by the Marines.
“We are aware of a social media post that does not align with our core values,” Lt. Col. Joshua Benson, lead spokesman for the Marines, told USA Today.
“The Marine in question has been relieved of his recruiting duties, and the matter is currently under investigation.”
“It is unacceptable for military personnel and Department of War civilians to celebrate or mock the assassination of a fellow American,” Sean Parnell, the chief Pentagon spokesman and senior adviser, wrote in a post on X.
“The Department of War has zero tolerance for it.”
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth shared Parnell’s post and added his own comment.
“We are tracking all these very closely—and will address, immediately. Completely unacceptable,” the Pentagon head wrote in response.
Williamson isn’t the only government employee to face sanction for comments made about Kirk’s murder. A Secret Service agent, Anthony Pough, has now been placed on leave calling the murder “karma.”
“If you are Mourning [sic] this guy .. delete me. He spewed hate and racism on his show,” the agent wrote in a now-deleted post on Facebook.
“Especially when we should be mourning the innocent children killed in Colorado,” Pough continued, referring to the shooting at Evergreen High School near Denver on the same day as Kirk’s death.
“At the end of the day, you answer to GOD and speak things into existence. You can only circumvent karma, she doesnt [sic] leave.”
On Thursday, Florida’s Commissioner of Education announced that teachers who celebrate the murder will be investigated and could lose their educator’s certificates.
“It has been brought to my attention that some Florida educators have posted despicable comments on social media regarding the horrific assassination of Charlie Kirk,” Anastasios Kamoutsa’ wrote in a letter to school district heads.
“These few are not a reflection of the great, high-quality teachers who make up the vast majority of Florida’s educators. Nevertheless, I will be conducting an investigation of every educator who engages in this vile, sanctionable behavior.”
Kirk, 31, was murdered at a Turning Point USA event in Utah on Wednesday. His suspected killer, Tyler Robinson, is now in custody.
Although authorities have not described a motive for the killings yet, evidence from the scene, including the shell casings, suggests a clear leftist political motivation.
The man arrested for the murder of Charlie Kirk was “pretty left on everything,” according to a friend of his, who said his radicalization began in high school.
Tyler Robinson’s friend spoke anonymously to The Guardian and said Robinson was “pretty left on everything,” and was “the only member of his family that was really leftist.”
“the rest of his family was very hard Republican,” the friend added.
The friend described how Robinson had begun adopting more extreme leftist positions during his sophomore year at high school and said he would “always be ranting and arguing about them.”
