Image Credit: abc 7 screenshot 28-year-old Abdul Saleh of New York City was shot dead in Lower Manhattan on Saturday night after an altercation at Sal’s Deli and Grocery.
According to CBS News, Saleh confronted a customer who refused to pay for a meal and a fight ensued, resulting in the culprit shooting Saleh dead and accidentally striking himself with a ricocheted bullet.
The shooter, who allegedly harassed and tried to fight staff and customers often, is recovering from his wound in a local hospital.
In May 2025, Saleh spoke with ABC 7 Eyewitness News about crime in the city, telling the outlet he was worried for his safety and that police don’t respond fast enough when bodega workers are attacked or robbed.

The outlet also shared a video of Saleh’s brother Ahmed fighting off the attacker just after Abdul was shot.
The local community told ABC 7 the deceased husband and father of two was the type of guy who’d give the shirt off his back to help others.
The tragedy reached 𝕏 owner Elon Musk, who blamed Democrat soft-on-crime policies for the killing, writing, “If extremely violent criminals are not imprisoned, eventually they will murder innocent people.”
28-year-old Kavone Horton, who is an alleged gang member previously arrested by federal agents in 2016, was arrested in connection with Abdul’s murder.
