Parents at a school in California will have to fill out a mental health document if their children refusing to share a bathroom locker with a male student.
The document, reportedly being distributed by the Temecula Valley Unified School District, was highlighted by former NCAA swimmer-turned-women’s rights activist Riley Gaines in an X post Wednesday, saying,
“I actually had a follower in California reach out and let me know that her daughter had to fill out a mental health accommodation form declaring that she had a mental health issue for, get this, not wanting to share the restroom locker room bathroom with a boy.”
Gaines followed up with a screenshot of the “Mental Health Accommodation Request Form,” bearing the school’s logo, asking parents to submit their “accommodation request.”
“I am requesting a mental health accommodation on behalf of my child. This request is made in accordance with federal and state laws, including Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), and California Education Codes.”
The form then asks for a description of their child’s “mental health condition,” in this case the reason why they’re refusing to share a bathroom locker with a transgender student.
“In California, if you’re a girl who doesn’t want to use – a high school, middle school age girl – if you don’t want to have to use the restroom next to a boy or forcibly undress next to a boy that makes you mentally deranged — not the boy who wants to be in that space, the boy declaring himself to be something that he’s not,” Gaines said, blasting the school’s ridiculous policy.
“Go ahead and give me a lobotomy if that’s the standard for being mentally deranged, is believing that girls’ bathrooms are only for girls and vice versa. Give me the lobotomy.”
The form was also highlighted earlier in the week by popular X account @LibsofTikTok, who commented, “The boys pretending to be girls and invading girls’ spaces are fine, but the girls who don’t want boys in their bathrooms are the problem. INSANE.”
Lindsey Graham, “The Patriot Barbie,” urged her followers to help speak out against the policy by showing up to a school board meeting this week, saying it’s a first-of-its-kind initiative that could serve as a test case for similar policies nationwide.
