Image Credit: GiveSendGo | Fox News A 14-year-old was killed and another boy injured when an illegal alien under the influence ran them over in Southern California, according to reports.
The tragedy unfolded on Oct. 10 in La Quinta, a city in Riverside County.
Liam Cantu, 14, and another male juvenile were riding bicycles along Highway 111 when a vehicle collided with them both.
Reports indicate the driver, identified as 47-year-old Jose Abelardo Villegas-Orbe, had been involved in another crash and was fleeing at high speed when he ran into the boys.
Villegas-Orbe reportedly fled the scene of the second collision but was apprehended a short time later.
The other boy was treated for minor injuries and released to recover at home.
However, Cantu fought for his life in hospital for two weeks before his family announced that he had passed away.
Villegas-Orbe, an illegal alien from Mexico, has been charged with vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI hit-and-run causing death.
The Mexican was previously arrested for DUIs in Riverside County in August and November of 2024, but remained in the U.S. due to the Biden regime’s lax enforcement policies, federal sources told Fox News.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement has lodged a detainer against Villegas-Orbe with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, but it is unlikely it will be honored due to California’s sanctuary laws.
An investigation is ongoing.
