The harrowing incident unfolded on Monday in Alabaster, a suburb of Birmingham in Shelby County.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) conducted an operation targeting Jose Emilio Ba-Ruiz, a previously-deported Mexican national with multiple charges for driving under the influence.
Ba-Ruiz “violently assaulted” a female ICE officer and managed to escape before being caught later in the day, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
The officer was treated by paramedics and is now recovering.
“Assaulting law enforcement is a federal crime and a felony. Secretary Noem has been clear: anyone who assaults our law enforcement will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” stated DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin.
“As our officers enforce the nation’s laws and remove criminal illegal aliens, they are facing a more than 1,300% increase in assaults against them.”
Illegal aliens and radical leftists have become increasingly violent in their resistance to immigration law enforcement.
