Alternative for Germany (AfD) leader Alice Weidel left no room for doubt in her New Year address: the ruling coalition under Chancellor Friedrich Merz continues the dismantling of prosperity, overwhelms the social system through mass immigration, and isolates Germany with an ideologically driven foreign policy. In stark contrast, the AfD is building strong and friendly relations with patriotic forces around the world.
Three outstanding appearances by AfD politicians already marked the party’s international strength in 2025: Weidel’s triumphant appearance at CPAC in Budapest, Petr Bystron’s acclaimed speech at Tommy Robinson’s mega-demonstration in London, and Markus Frohnmaier’s award ceremony with the Young Republicans in New York.
Weidel’s Triumph at CPAC in Budapest
The decisive breakout from international isolation was achieved by the party leader herself. On May 30, Weidel became the first AfD politician ever to speak at one of the top events in conservative politics: CPAC. For years, the conference has been the “who’s who” of American conservatism, featuring speakers such as J.D. Vance and Donald Trump. This year, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán invited numerous patriots from Europe and the United States to CPAC in Budapest and gave Weidel the stage.
In her brilliant speech delivered in English, Weidel dismantled Merz’s policies, denounced EU overregulation, and called for national sovereignty, secure borders, and the protection of Western values. With the rallying cry “Let’s make Europe great again!”—a clear nod to Trump—she was rewarded with standing ovations, as even the mainstream press had to grudgingly admit.
Afterwards, she met personally with Orbán. This was a clear signal from the Hungarian prime minister that he no longer intends to bow to dictates from Berlin. For years, Berlin exerted pressure on friendly governments to not meet AfD representatives. Weidel’s speech was celebrated as a “rock star performance” and marked the AfD’s definitive breakthrough into international conservatism.
Bystron’s Battle Cry at Tommy Robinson’s Million-Person Demonstration in London
Another “rock star appearance” followed on September 13, when Petr Bystron spoke at one of the largest patriotic demonstrations of all time in London. Bystron was the only speaker from Germany, appearing alongside international celebrities such as Elon Musk, Eva Vlaardingerbroek, Katie Hopkins, and Éric Zemmour. The foreign policy expert thrilled 1.5 million Britons on site and another 3 million viewers worldwide via livestream on X. With more than 46 million total views, the demonstration became one of the most-watched X livestreams ever.
In his equally emotional English-language speech, Bystron called for the defense of Europe: “Our ancestors fought for 2,000 years, and we will fight for another 2,000 years if necessary!” And hand in hand with Tommy Robinson: “We will never give up—together we are strong!”
This appearance cemented the AfD as the spearhead of a European patriotic alliance, standing shoulder to shoulder with British heroes like Robinson.
One participant summed it up pointedly: “Today, a Messerschmitt flew over London—side by side with the Spitfires.”
Frohnmaier Honored in New York: The Dulles Award for an Anti-Marxist Fighter
The AfD’s international networking was crowned on December 13 in New York. Markus Frohnmaier, deputy parliamentary group leader and foreign policy spokesman of the AfD, was awarded the prestigious Allen W. Dulles Award at the 113th Annual Gala of the New York Young Republican Club. The honor recognizes his “courageous struggle” in Germany’s repressive political climate and embodies the uncompromising anti-Marxist spirit of the legendary CIA director Dulles.
In his powerful speech, Frohnmaier warned: “In my home country, Germany, the ruling elite has lost its mind.” A new form of totalitarianism, he said, is disguising itself behind “diversity” and censorship laws. He called for a strong nationalist alliance between the United States and Germany. His laudator, echoing Ronald Reagan’s famous words, addressed German Chancellor Friedrich Merz directly: “Mr. Chancellor, tear down this firewall!”
The gala, attended by Trump-aligned figures such as Jack Posobiec, underscored one thing clearly: the AfD is firmly anchored in the MAGA camp. The close ties between the AfD and the Republicans under Trump were also evident in the fact that Frohnmaier traveled with a strong AfD delegation and held high-level meetings in Washington, D.C., beforehand.
Austria Shows How Pointless the “Firewall” Really Is
Austria provides a striking example of how absurd and counterproductive the so-called firewall strategy truly is. There, the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ), despite winning the recent election, was excluded from government by a grand coalition. The result: instead of weakening the FPÖ, the exclusion massively strengthened it. Today, the FPÖ polls at around 40 percent, and an outright majority government is within reach—thanks to the firewall. Austria thus delivers a clear lesson for all of Europe: isolating patriotic parties does not stop them; it propels them forward.
2025 was the year in which the AfD finally broke through its artificial isolation and tore down the firewall on the international stage—a firewall that German governments had tried to uphold for years. Alice Weidel’s New Year address makes one thing clear: 2026 will be the year of the final breakthrough.
