Image Credit: fhm / Getty Police in Bellevue, Washington, say officers were lured by a fake 911 call made by a homeless man who then attacked cops with a knife upon their arrival.
One law enforcement officer was hospitalized after being slashed in the face by the suspect and a second policeman on the scene immediately fired their gun at the individual, wounding the criminal.
The arrestee, 38-year-old Mohamed Morray Bangura, is originally from Sierra Leone, Africa, and listed his most recent address as local homeless shelter.
Bangura is being charged with felony assault after causing a six-inch laceration on the cop’s face and stabbing him in the back two times.
The injured police officer also dislocated his right shoulder and broke his left clavicle.
Both the policeman and the suspect are expected to fully recover.
A prosecutor for the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office confirmed Bangura’s 911 call about an alleged domestic violence incident was intended to lure the officers so he could attack them.
The prosecutor also confirmed the suspect’s latest address was a Seattle homeless shelter, according to charging documents.
Many accounts on social media are claiming the suspect was a Muslim, but there is currently proof, however, data shows Muslims make up around 80% of Sierra Leone’s population.
Bangura’s religious background is noteworthy as the world has seen a sharp uptick in Islamic attacks in recent months.
