Image Credit: Screenshot | ABC 7 A man who interfered in targeted immigration enforcement in California was shot and is now facing significant federal charges, authorities say.
The incident unfolded at around 6:30 a.m. on Thursday in Ontario, a city in San Bernardino County.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents were conducting a vehicle stop when a man identified as 24-year-old Carlos Jimenez pulled up in a Lexus SUV and began interfering.
“When told to leave, Jimenez drove forward, then reversed at speed toward agents, one of whom opened fire, wounding Jimenez,” stated First Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli, citing a federal criminal complaint.
Jimenez reportedly fled to a mobile park where his family lives and informed his brother that he had been shot in the shoulder.
He was treated at a local hospital, released, and arrested by ICE on charges of assaulting a federal officer.
Jimenez made his first appearance in U.S. District Court in Riverside on Friday and was ordered released on $10,000 bond with an ankle monitor.
“This is another example of the threats our ICE officers are facing day-in and day-out as they risk their lives to enforce the law and arrest criminals. ICE officers now face a 1,000% increase in assaults them including cars being used as weapons and death threats against our agents are up 8,000%,” ICE said in a statement.
Illegal aliens and radical leftists become increasingly brazen in their resistance to immigration law enforcement.
