As much as leftists want her to fail—and are hoping that last week’s referendum defeat might trigger her downfall—Giorgia Meloni is holding onto her support base, and her party remains easily more popular than any other.

The latest SWG poll—the first to be released since voters rejected the prime minister’s justice reforms—suggests Brothers of Italy’s backing has remained stable.

So much, it seems, for Politico’s claim that the vote “shattered [Meloni’s] aura of political invincibility.” And, indeed, The Guardian’s suggestion that the outcome “is expected to tarnish her reputation.”

Other parties have advanced since the referendum, but only slightly—the Democrats by 0.5%, and Five Star by 0.1%. They are still far behind.

Brothers of Italy said the polling shows “the consensus remains stable, and the leadership of the nation remains firmly in the hands of the center-right.”

With all due respect to the prophets of doom, the majority continues to represent the point of reference for an Italy that demands seriousness, vision, and concreteness in government action.

Party member and europeanconservative.com contributor Giorgio Raimondi added that “beyond the newspaper headlines and partisan interpretations, the poll numbers continue to tell a clear story.”

“Continuing with concreteness, without improvisations, is the most responsible path. Italy needs stability, not new experiments,” he said.

And despite continued reports that Meloni will have to call an election early to help protect her position as prime minister, Deputy PM Matteo Salvini on Monday maintained that the government will “reach the end of its term without any doubts or hesitation.”
