The Kansas City Aviation Department received a call about a “potential device” inside the terminal and a parking garage, triggering immediate emergency protocols at around 11:15 a.m.
Travelers and airport workers were herded out onto the tarmac, arriving planes were held on the taxiway, and roads leading into the airport were reportedly blocked off.
X user @Pushin_Chimpers posted footage of the evacuation, saying there were “K9’s and agents all over the place.”
“None of us have been told anything, we’ve been out here for an hour now. All agents left about 10 minutes ago,” he stated in another post.
The FBI worked alongside local law enforcement and a Bomb and Arson squad to sweep both locations, and after approximately two hours, they determined there was no credible threat to the terminal.
The garage remained closed for an additional three hours after K-9 units identified a suspicious vehicle on the top floor, but authorities eventually determined there was no threat.
“FBI and our law enforcement partners quickly responded to the scene and secured the area. The threat was reviewed and determined not to be credible. Terminal has been swept, cleared, and normal operations resumed,” FBI Director Kash Patel announced on Sunday afternoon.
“Threats like these are a federal crime. FBI and law enforcement partners will fully investigate and bring to justice anyone responsible.”
On Friday night, authorities stormed a Southwest Airlines flight that was diverted to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport following an alleged “bomb threat” onboard.
On Saturday, the FBI’s Atlanta office announced that they “investigated and interviewed the person. There was no credible threat and no charges will be filed.”
