An Angolan migrant who stabbed a man at an airport in Ireland will not be required to serve time in prison, a court has ruled.
In Sept. 2023, Kasonga Mbuyi, 52, was wandering through the Dublin airport when he stabbed an unsuspecting man several times, including in the neck, with a pen knife, while shouting, “I’m going to kill you!”
The victim, a German man, suffered eight wounds to neck, chest and on his left side, and required 12 stitches.
Despite the victim’s physical and psychological damage, and the heinousness of the random unprovoked attack, Judge Martina Baxter agreed Mbuyi’s pen knife rampage at the time was “a cry for help” as he was schizophrenic and “very very unwell” at the time of the incident.

“Judge Baxter imposed a sentence of two-and-a-half years, which she suspended on conditions due to his longstanding issues and also to encourage and incentivize continued rehabilitation,” reports Irish newspaper Sunday World.
Mbuyi, who has been in custody for two years, reportedly accepted responsibility for the attack claiming he was “trying to do a crazy thing to get help.”
The victim told the court the attack left a “profound” impact on his and his family’s lives, noting, “society must first and foremost be protected from such acts.”
