President Donald Trump bashed NATO in a Thursday Truth Social post, which came just one day after he had a “frank” meeting with the group’s Secretary Mark Rutte.
“NATO WASN’T THERE WHEN WE NEEDED THEM, AND THEY WON’T BE THERE IF WE NEED THEM AGAIN. REMEMBER GREENLAND, THAT BIG, POORLY RUN, PIECE OF ICE!!! President DJT,” he wrote.
Rutte visited the White House on Wednesday following the Trump administration admitting it’s thinking about having the USA leave the alliance.
The pair discussed President Trump’s frustration with NATO nations refusing to assist the U.S. and Israel in the war with Iran by helping open the Strait of Hormuz.
NATO was “tested, and they failed,” WH Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Wednesday.
Trump and Rutte had a “very frank” and “very open” conversation, according to the NATO secretary.
Making an appearance on CNN post-meeting with Trump, Rutte said, “He is clearly disappointed with many NATO allies, and I can see his point. But at the same time, I was also able to point to the fact that the large majority of European nations has been helpful with basing, with logistics, with overflights, with making sure that they live up to the commitments.”
Asked if Trump told the secretary whether or not the U.S. will be exiting NATO, Rutte dodged the question and said, “It was a very open discussion. He clearly told me what he thought of what happened over the last couple of weeks.”
While he’s in Washington, D.C., Rutte will be attending the 2026 Bilderberg Meeting along with fellow globalists such as Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, World Economic Forum President Børge Brende, Palantir CEO Alex Karp, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, former Google CEO Eric Schmidt, and venture capitalist Peter Thiel among many others.
If the United States were to leave NATO, the globalist body could completely collapse as America contributes to more than half of its defense funding.
