The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) revealed shocking results of targeted enforcement that took place in Northwest Indiana as part of Operation Midway Blitz, which was launched in the neighboring sanctuary state of Illinois in early September.
Indiana State Police, working in conjunction with federal authorities under Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) 287(g) program, apprehended a total of 223 illegal aliens on Indiana highways near the Illinois state line, including 146 big rig operators.
Many of those arrested had significant criminal histories, including child abuse, drug trafficking, assault, driving under the influence, burglary, and theft.
More than 40 of the truckers had been issued Commercial Driver’s Licenses (CDL) by states like California, New York, and Illinois, while most were apparently operating little to no documentation at all.
“Far too many innocent Americans have been killed by illegal aliens driving semi-trucks and big rigs. And yet, sanctuary states around the country have been issuing illegal aliens commercial driver’s licenses. The Trump Administration is ending the chaos,” said DHS Secretary Kristi Noem.
“Thanks to President Trump, Operation Midway Blitz has already removed over 140 illegal alien truck drivers in Indiana. The brave men and women of ICE and the Indiana State Police are working nonstop to get criminal illegal aliens out of our communities and off our roads.”
Foreign truck drivers — many in the U.S. illegally — have been wreaking havoc on American roadways, with a growing number of U.S. citizens being killed or maimed in horrific crashes they cause.
“In recent weeks, we have seen illegal semi-truck drivers responsible for significant loss of life across the country. This was preventable, and that is precisely why we are working to ensure this doesn’t happen in Indiana or Illinois,” stated ICE Acting Director Todd Lyons.
In September, a similar three-day action on Interstate 40 in Oklahoma resulted in the arrests of 91 illegal aliens driving big rigs with CDLs.
