Image Credit: Screenshot | Security footage via CWB Chicago A trio of armed carjackers targeted a man and child who were out trick-or-treating in broad daylight in Chicago this weekend, according to reports.
The harrowing incident unfolded just after 3 p.m. on Friday afternoon in the Bridgeport neighborhood of the Windy City.
Security footage obtained by CWB Chicago shows a 42-year-old man parking a Mazda SUV and then helping a young girl exit the vehicle.
As they approach the gate of a nearby home, a black male can be seen sprinting out of a nearby alley and pointing a gun at the man’s head.
The suspect then pistol-whips the man as the girl watches from feet way.
Two more black males sprint toward the melee, with one jumping into the Mazda’s driver seat and the other joining his accomplice in rifling through the victim’s pockets as he stands helpless.
The suspect brandishing the firearm eventually runs back toward the alley from which he emerged while the other hops in the Mazda and all suspects flee the scene.
The man can be seen signaling to a woman inside the residence while getting on his phone, presumably to call 911.
“Police said the robbers made off with the man’s black Mazda CX-5, his phone, and his wallet. A CPD spokesperson said officers recovered the man’s SUV in the 300 block of South Maplewood, but no arrests have been made,” CWB Chicago reports.
Earlier in the week, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker sent a letter to the Department of Homeland Security requesting they pause Operation Midway Blitz in the Chicago area for holiday weekend.
