Several people were seriously injured when a brutal knife fight broke out among migrants in Belgium this weekend, according to reports.
The shocking incident unfolded on Sunday evening at around 5:30 p.m. local time in Lommel, a city near the Netherlands border.
More than a dozen men from Afghanistan clashed in the city center, with many wielding blades and improvised weapons.
Witness footage has been circulating on social media.
Men can be seen chasing each other near a bus stop on a busy road and running in front of passing cars.
Multiple combatants viciously hacked their opponents, leading to at least one participant suffering gruesome neck wounds, according to reports.
“Migrants stabbing each other in the city centre of Lommel. One of them has his throat cut. The natives watching aren’t even surprised anymore,” prominent Belgian activist Dries Van Langenhove wrote on X.
“When I held a demonstration against the opening of the huge asylum centre in Lommel where these migrants probably live, the media called me an extremist and fearmonger because I predicted this violence.”
Police arrived and arrested six people and shut the street down for some time, HLN reports.
“About twenty Afghans clashed,” acting mayor Peter Vanderkrieken stated. “A group of Afghans who do not stay in Lommel, but have come to our region to teach someone staying in Fedasil [Federal Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers] a lesson.”
At least two people were treated for severe injuries following the brawl.
An investigation is ongoing.
