The horrifying attack unfolded at around 5:45 a.m. on Sunday morning in the sanctuary city.
A group of juveniles reportedly approached a man identified as Bradley Obeirne, 49, as he slept with his cat and possessions near the entrance to a restaurant in the Loop, Chicago’s central business district.
According to prosecutors who reviewed surveillance footage, a 14-year-old suspect grabbed a skeleton mask belonging to Obeirne and ran away.
When Obeirne stood up to confront them, 16-year-old Wuinayker Rodriguez-Vasquez reportedly kicked the man from behind, CWB Chicago reports.
Other members of the group ran away but Rodriguez-Vasquez and another 14-year-old carrying a metal rod reportedly remained behind and set upon Obeirne.
Rodriguez-Vasquez then pulled a knife from his sleeve and plunged it into Obeirne’s back, causing him to collapse to the ground, prosecutors say.
The teens fled the scene and Obeirne was found hours later by a passerby.
He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Chicago police tracked the suspects down on Monday afternoon and arrested Rodriguez-Vasquez and the two 14-year-olds.
Rodriguez-Vasquez has been charged as an adult with first-degree murder and mob action.
One of the 14-year-olds has also been charged with first-degree murder in juvenile court, while the other teen has been charged with robbery.
Prosecutors say Rodriguez-Vasquez could be seen “displaying a knife to the group, making stabbing motions, and wearing the victim’s skeleton mask on his head” as others laughed.
All three suspects are citizens of Venezuela, sources told Fox News.
Rodriguez-Vasquez illegally crossed the southern border with his mother in 2023 near Eagle Pass, TX, and was released into the country by the Biden regime, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
An investigation is ongoing.
