CNN pollster Harry Enten crowned Donald Trump “the most influential president this century.”
“Love it, like it, lump it — Trump’s remaking the United States of America,” Enten said at the start of a weekend segment on the news network.
“I can’t think of a more influential president during this century.”
Enten noted that the average US tariff rate has jumped to 18% under President Trump, the highest rate since the 1930s.
He also noted that immigration into the US has decreased by at least 60%, and that the country may soon have negative net migration for the first time in half a century.
“We may be dealing with—get this—negative net migration to the United States in 2025,” Enten said.
“That would be the first time there is negative net migration in this country in at least 50 years.”
He continued: “Trump has always run on tariffs, and he’s running a hawkish line on immigration. And on both of those issues—we are seeing record-high tariff rates for this century, and when it comes to immigration, net migration, we are seeing record low levels.”
On the basis of these two issues alone, Enten concluded that Trump is the most influential president at least as far back as the middle of the twentieth century.
