Preliminary figures are in the for the month of June and they indicate the Trump administration has succeeded in effectively sealing the nation’s borders.
U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) recorded just 6,070 apprehensions on the southern border in June and 8,039 nationwide, new historic lows.
In total, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reported only 25,243 encounters – the lowest number since the agency was formed in 2002.
USBP recorded another milestone with 137 apprehensions on the southern frontier, the “lowest single-day total in a quarter of a century,” the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) explained in a press release on Wednesday.
Additionally, gotaways were down 90% from June of 2024 and USBP released zero illegal aliens into the country for the second month in a row.
Last June, CBP recorded nearly 205,000 encounters while more than 10,000 gotaways slipped into the U.S.
“The numbers don’t lie — under President Trump’s leadership, DHS and CBP have shattered records and delivered the most secure border in American history. The world is hearing our message: the border is closed to law breakers,” said DHS Secretary Kristi Noem.
“Under President Trump, our Border Patrol agents are empowered to do their job once again, secure our border and protect the American people.”
DHS has partially attributed June’s relative plunge in illegal crossings to a recent show of force in the sanctuary state of California.
