“The Board of Peace will prove to be the most consequential International Body in History, and it is my honor to serve as its Chairman.”
The Board, established to oversaw the second phase of the peace process, including reconstruction, will have its first meeting on Thursday at the “Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace,” in Washington DC.
President Trump did not provide details of which members had guaranteed to provide funds or personnel.
The Associated Press recently reported that Indonesia expects to have 8,000 troops ready by the end of June to serve as part of a humanitarian mission to Gaza. This is the first firm commitment by a Board member to be reported.
The Board of Peace is expected to deploy peacekeepers to ensure no violations of the ceasefire during the second phase of the peace process.
There were multiple violations on both sides during the first phase.
A number of European countries declined President Trump’s invitation to be part of the Board of Peace, among them France, Germany, Greece, Italy and the United Kingdom.
President Trump revoked his invitation to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney after he voiced opposition to the acquisition of Greenland.
Permanent membership of the Board requires a $1 billion fee.
