President Donald Trump on Thursday withdrew Secret Service protection from his former Democrat opponent, Kamala Harris, the former vice president of the United States.
The move was announced in a memo from Trump to DHS obtained by CNN, noting Harris’ last day of Secret Service protection would be Sept. 1.
“You are hereby authorized to discontinue any security-related procedures previously authorized by Executive Memorandum, beyond those required by law, for the following individual, effective September 1, 2025: Former Vice President Kamala D. Harris,” the letter states, according to CNN.
As CNN explains, unlike presidents who receive lifetime Secret Service protection, VPs are only covered for six months following their term, and Harris’ six months were up in July – but her security detail was apparently extended by a year via an order “signed” by Joe Biden – “a directive never publicly disclosed until now,” notes Mediaite.
Trump’s removal of Harris’ security detail comes as she’s set to tour her new book, 107 Days, titled after the number of days her disastrous campaign lasted, prompting concern amongst leftists, but given her unpopularity it’s hard to see why she needs security in the first place.
