Europe reportedly allowed Ukraine to launch these long-range missiles deep into Russia while Moscow was conducting nuclear drills - potentially increasing the risk of nuclear escalation or nuclear accident.

On Wednesday The Wall Street Journal reported that restrictions on Ukraine’s use of European long-range missiles to strike deep within Russia were lifted. If this was true, it would be the second time the escalatory tactic was tried since November 2024 when Joe Biden’s autopen presidency nearly kicked off nuclear World War 3.

President Donald Trump rebuked the report however, calling it “FAKE NEWS!”

The Wall Street Journal story on the U.S.A.’s approval of Ukraine being allowed to use long range missiles deep into Russia is FAKE NEWS! The U.S. has nothing to do with those missiles, wherever they may come from, or what Ukraine does with them!

“The Trump administration has lifted a key restriction on Ukraine’s use of some long-range missiles provided by Western allies, enabling Kyiv to step up attacks on targets inside Russia and increase pressure on the Kremlin, U.S. officials said Wednesday,” The Wall Street Journal reported. “Ukraine used a British-supplied Storm Shadow cruise missile on Tuesday to strike a Russian plant in Bryansk that produced explosives and rocket fuel, the General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces announced on social media. It called the strike a ‘successful hit‘ that penetrated Russian air defenses.”

Notably, in the days following the autopen President approving U.S. long-range strikes in November 2024, the U.K. and France made similar moves.

The timing of the long-range attack on Russia coincided with Russia’s nuclear drills which took place Wednesday:

An exercise of Russia’s strategic nuclear forces led by Vladimir Putin took place on October 22. As part of the planned event, launches of air-launched intercontinental ballistic and cruise missiles were conducted. A Yars ballistic missile was fired from the Plesetsk spaceport to the Kura testing range in Kamchatka, a Sineva ballistic missile was launched from the Barents Sea, and Tu-95MS long-range aircraft carrying cruise missiles were also involved in the drills. Experts unanimously note that such exercises are not a sudden spike in nuclear activity but a longstanding practice and an expected element in the combat training cycle.
