On Tuesday during President Donald Trump’s cabinet meeting, special envoy Steve Witkoff revealed that Washington expects the Ukraine war to be over by the end of 2025. To help resolve the conflict Witkoff is set to meet officials from Kiev in New York City later this week to discuss a Russian peace proposal.
“Russia, Ukraine, Iran, Israel, Hamas, we’re having meetings all this week on all three of those conflicts and we hope to settle them by the end of this year,” Witkoff said.
Witkoff began speaking at 1:54:00 into the video:
Witkoff went on Fox to discuss this effort further:
“There’s a peace proposal on the table,” Witkoff said. “We’re at this place where we think the end is in sight… we have technical teams working on it and we’re hopeful that by the end of this year, and maybe quite a bit sooner, we actually can find the ingredients to get to that peace deal.”
Trump’s envoy mentioned an upcoming meeting he is set to hold with Ukrainian officials in New York City later this week, then discussed his expectations for a future meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian Dictator Vladimir Zelensky
“We may end up seeing a bilateral meeting [Putin & Zelensky] my own opinion is that the President [Trump] is going to be needed at the table to finish a deal,” he said.
The White House official also gave details about the Russian peace proposal that’s on the table.
“The Russians have put a peace proposal on the table. It involves Donetsk. It may not be, it may not be something that the Ukrainians can take, but no one’s ever made that kind of progress here, and it’s because of his [Trump’s] force of personality and his motivation to end the conflict and the death that we’re at this, this place where we think the end is in sight,” Witkoff said.
