Trump Not Interested In Iran Peace Deal Now, Was Interested Days Ago

In addition to Trump losing interest in a peace deal, Iran just responded to a U.S. peace plan framework by calling it "one-sided and unfair."

While President Donald Trump indicated his interest in enacting a peace deal with Iran days ago, the President has lost interest in that venture Thursday.

“They [Iranians] are begging to work out a deal,” Trump said during a cabinet meeting at the White House. “I don’t know if we’ll be able to do that. I don’t know if we’re willing to do that.”

Trump appeared upset that the news claimed he is desperate to make a deal with Iran, potentially spurring on his new-founded indifference.

“I read a story today that I’m desperate to make a deal. I’m not,” Trump said. “I’m the opposite of desperate. I don’t care.”

His spokeswoman gave an even harsher message about Trump’s new position on peace with Iran.

“President Trump does not bluff, and he is prepared to unleash hell. Iran should not miscalculate again,” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said.

Unlike Trump’s announcement from last week, that his objectives were very close to being complete, the new week has brought with it new targets to pursue.

“In fact, we have other targets we want to hit before we leave,” Trump said.

Despite Trump’s Thursday statements, his administration appears to have kept working on the agenda of diplomacy.

“There are intermediary countries that are passing messages and progress has been made — some concrete progress has been made,” Rubio said.

Special Envoy Steve Witkoff confirmed Thursday that Washington is indeed working with Iran through backchannels.

Witkoff confirmed during the cabinet meeting that the U.S. presented Iran with a 15-point framework for a peace deal, using Pakistan as an intermediary for the interaction.

“I can say this, we will see where things lead and if we can convince Iran that this is the inflection point with no good alternatives for them other than more death and destruction,” Witkoff said. “We have strong signs that this is a possibility, and if a deal happens, it will be great for the country of Iran, for the entire region and the world at large.”

Iran responded to the U.S. proposal by calling it “one-sided and unfair.”

A deal between Washington and Tehran may not be sufficient to put a stop to the conflict, however. On March 8 Trump said that the war can only end if Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is okay with ending it.

“I think it’s mutual … a little bit. We’ve been talking. I’ll make a decision at the right time, but everything’s going to be taken into account,” Trump said at the time.
