President Trump spoke with the press on Monday, saying he believes Israel will abide by an Iran-USA peace agreement and that the Netanyahu-led Israeli government “will be very happy” with the deal.
“This will be peace for Israel,” POTUS said. “Longtime peace, guaranteed peace if this happens, and I can’t guarantee it, but I think it’s going to. My life is a deal, that’s all I do is deals my whole life. I think this is something that’s going to happen, and why wouldn’t it happen?”
“So, tomorrow morning sometime, we were expected to blow up their [Iran] largest electric-generating plant that cost over ten billion dollars to build. It’s a very good one, there was no dearth of money. One shot, it’s gone, it collapses. Why would they want that? So, they called – I didn’t call, they called – and they wanna make a deal and we are very willing to make a deal. It has to be a good deal and it’s gotta be no more wars, no more nuclear weapons. They’re not going to have nuclear weapons anymore, they’re agreeing to that. Any of that stuff and there’s no deal,” he added.
The remarks came after a Trump Truth Social post Monday morning detailing the “good and productive conversations” between the U.S. and Iran over the past two days.
“I AM PLEASED TO REPORT THAT THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, AND THE COUNTRY OF IRAN, HAVE HAD, OVER THE LAST TWO DAYS, VERY GOOD AND PRODUCTIVE CONVERSATIONS REGARDING A COMPLETE AND TOTAL RESOLUTION OF OUR HOSTILITIES IN THE MIDDLE EAST,” Trump wrote.
“BASED ON THE TENOR AND TONE OF THESE IN DEPTH, DETAILED, AND CONSTRUCTIVE CONVERSATIONS, WHICH WILL CONTINUE THROUGHOUT THE WEEK, I HAVE INSTRUCTED THE DEPARTMENT OF WAR TO POSTPONE ANY AND ALL MILITARY STRIKES AGAINST IRANIAN POWER PLANTS AND ENERGY INFRASTRUCTURE FOR A FIVE DAY PERIOD, SUBJECT TO THE SUCCESS OF THE ONGOING MEETINGS AND DISCUSSIONS. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER!”
Meanwhile, Iranian state media denied Trump’s claims of successful talks and suggested the president “backed down” from a 48-hour ultimatum on attacking Iranian energy infrastructure.
