Image Credit: Roberto Schmidt/Getty Images The war in Iran is near completion and will soon be over, President Donald Trump signaled Monday.
Speaking to CBS News in a phone interview, the president said Iran has depleted much of its military capabilities leaving options for the regime extremely limited.
“I think the war is very complete, pretty much,” Trump said. “[Iran has] no navy, no communications, they’ve got no air force. Their missiles are down to a scatter. Their drones are being blown up all over the place, including their manufacturing of drones.”
Trump elaborated on the comments during a press conference at Mar-a-Lago Monday.
Via CNBC:
“We’re achieving major strides toward completing our military objective,” Trump told reporters.
“And some people could say they’re pretty well complete. We’ve wiped every single force in Iran out, very completely,” the president said. “Most of Iran’s naval power has been sunk. It’s on the bottom of the sea. It’s almost 50 ships. I was just notified of 51 ships.”
“They have no Navy, they have no Air Force, they have no anti-aircraft equipment,” he said.
“They have no leadership. It’s all been blown up.”
“This is a military success the likes of which have never been seen,” Trump said.
Speaking to Republicans at a Congressional Institute event on Monday, Trump also said the Iran war would be a “short-term excursion.”

Some oil prices eased and dipped below $90 per barrel on the news, aligning with the president’s expectations.
Trump also reiterated he would protect commercial shipping going through the Strait of Hormuz, through which nearly 20% of the world’s oil is exported.
“They’ve shot everything they have to shoot, and they better not try anything cute or it’s going to be the end of that country. … If they do anything bad, that would be the end of Iran and you’d never hear the name again,” Trump told CBS.
Trump added that “We’re very far ahead of schedule.”
Asked at the press conference how his comments reconcile with an X post by the Dept. of War captioned, “We have Only Just Begun to Fight,” Trump argued both could be true, saying, “It’s the beginning of building a new country.”
CBS also asked the president whether the war could wrap up soon, to which he responded, “Wrapping up is all in my mind, nobody else’s.”
The prospect that an end to the war could be on the horizon comes as the US lost its seventh service member in the Middle East over the weekend after an Iranian attack on U.S. troops in Saudi Arabia.
