The Democrat favourite to be the next New York mayor wants to turn the city into a national hub for transgender surgery, according to new footage released from the Socialism 2025 Conference.
Daniel Goulden, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America’s (DSA) New York steering committee, told a panel at last month’s conference that “Zohran is literally attempting to do what conservatives say we want to do, which is provide gender affirming care to anyone who wants it for free. We’re gonna fly people in and pay for their hotel rooms.”
In one video posted to social media, he explains how the New York branch of the DSA has been working directly with the Mamdani campaign on his “trans-rights platform.”
“We collaborated with the Zohran Mamdani campaign on his trans-rights platform, and what we explicitly wanted to do was use the power of New York City to provide free gender-affirming care—and I say free in case insurance companies decide to boot us off—free gender affirming care not just to people in New York City but across the country.”
“DSA has regular meetings with him, let alone his team,” Goulden continues.
“His policy director is my friend. I’ve been working with his campaign manager for well over a year.”
In another video, he makes it clear that the goal is to circumvent state bans on transgender surgery and hormonal therapy, presumably for minors as well as adults.
Last week, New Hampshire became the latest state to ban child sex-changes, and the first such state in New England.
State Governor Kelly Ayotte has now signed two bills into law, both of which will restrict access to sex-change procedures for under-18s.
The first bill prohibits the administering of puberty blockers or sex-change hormones, but makes an exception for minors already undergoing treatment. Providers that violate the law will be subject to punishment, and individuals will be allowed to file suit against providers who have violated the law.
The second bill limits breast surgeries—often referred to euphemistically as “top surgery”—to “only those procedures needed to treat malignancy, injury, infection, or malformation and those needed to reconstruct the breasts after such procedures.”
A number of other states have already enacted similar bans after President Trump’s Executive Order declaring that no medical facilities that perform sex-change operations on children would receive federal funding, including from Medicare and Medicaid.
The Supreme Court recently upheld Tennessee’s ban on gender transitions.
New York Attorney General Letitia James has filed a lawsuit against the federal government and the Trump administration. She has been joined by fifteen other states (California, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, Rhode Island, Wisconsin, and the District of Columbia).
Mamdani is running on a platform that includes a number of radical left-wing reforms, including the establishment of city-owned grocery stores, free childcare and a new tax on residents earning over $1 million a year.
He has also repeatedly said he would tax white neighborhoods in New York more heavily than others.
President Trump has threatened to withhold federal funding from New York if Mamdani wins the race, in November.
Speaking to Maria Bartiromo of Fox News said he would take the drastic measure if Mamdani doesn’t “do the right thing.”
“He’s a communist,” Trump said.
“I think it’s very bad for New York. I don’t know that he’s gonna get in. It’s inconceivable… but he’s a communist, and he’s pure communist. I think he admits it. I can’t imagine it, but let’s say this: If he does get in, I’m gonna be president, then he’s going to have to do the right thing, but they’re not getting any money. He’s got to do to the right thing.”
Mamdani is currently the favorite to win the New York race, with Star Sports offering odds of ¼ or 80% on his becoming mayor.
