NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte heaped effusive praise on President Donald Trump during a meeting in the Netherlands Wednesday, crediting him with stopping the Israel-Iran war, as well as referring to him as “daddy” at one point.

“First, before we go to spending, I just want to recognize your decisive action on Iran,” Rutte said. “You are a man of strength, but you’re also a man of peace, and the fact that you are now also successful in getting this ceasefire done between Israel and Iran, I really want to commend you for that.”

The NATO chief went on to thank President Trump for his success in making other nations pay their fair share into the trans-Atlantic organization.

Later during the discussion, President Trump compared the situation between Israel and Iran to two children fighting on the playground.

“They’re not going to be fighting each other. They’ve had it, they’ve had a big fight, like two kids in a schoolyard, you know, they fight like hell, you can’t stop them, let them fight for about two, three minutes, then it’s easy to stop them,” Trump said, with Rutte chiming in, “Then daddy has to sometimes use strong language,” before bursting into laughter.

“You have to use strong language,” Trump acknowledged, adding, “Everyone’s talking about you have to use a certain word…to get the point across.”

The pair were likely referring to the U.S. President’s use of the F-word during a brief conversation with the press before heading to the NATO summit, where he expressed frustration with Israel for bombarding Iran after Trump had announced a ceasefire agreement.

“We basically have two countries that have been fighting so long and so hard that they don’t know what the f*ck they’re doing. You understand that,” Trump said Tuesday before storming off.

Twenty-four hours in, the ceasefire appears to be holding.

Later, reporters asked whether Trump felt he was a father figure to NATO countries.

“No, he likes me, I think he likes me, if he doesn’t I’ll let you know, I’ll come back and I’ll hit him hard, ok?” Trump responded, adding, “He did it very affectionately. ‘Daddy, you’re my daddy.'”
