Democrat Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson accused ICE agents of zip-tying black and brown children, as the Trump administration ramps up deportation efforts in the Windy City.
Speaking at a press conference Tuesday, Johnson reasserted his resistance to Trump’s immigration enforcement agenda, claiming it’s rooted in racism.
“No one is going to convince me what the Trump administration is doing against black people and brown people can ever be justified,” the Chicago mayor told reporters.
“It is racist,” he added. “When you have black babies, being thrown in the back of vans, zip-tied in the middle of the night, and mass men sticking guns in the faces of black and brown people that is nasty, is vicious, is racist. Dr. Keane described it as an evil, militarism, and that formation is an evil.”
Johnson’s outlandish allegations followed ICE raids conducted in Chicago’s South Shore community earlier this month that netted 37 alleged Tren de Aragua gang members, after which claims spread federal agents had detained American citizens, as well as children.
Neighbors also claimed they saw children zip-tied.
Amidst the commotion, a TikTok video went viral showing a baby being handcuffed by an officer as part of a skit, which many believed to be video proof of ICE detaining babies.

DHS disputed lies that babies were being zip-tied days after the raid, writing on X, “Children were NEVER zip tied. This claim originated from a viral PARODY VIDEO ON TIKTOK. The officer in the video was the FATHER of the toddler seen in the image.”
