Two illegal migrants have been given prison sentences between 15 and 17 years after raping a young French woman, who was 18 years old at the time of the incident, in the French city of Aix-en-Provence,
The woman was followed by the two men, 29-year-old Algerian Mohamed Annabi and 20-year-old Tunisian Amen-Allah Handiri, and dragged into a dead-end street near a SNCF train station in December 2021. She was then brutally attacked, with each man taking turns on the girl.
“It’s a brutal rape par excellence,” Maud Bertrand, the victim’s lawyer, told Le Figaro.
The two men were sentenced on Friday evening to 17 and 15 years in prison. Annabi’s sentence will include a permanent ban from France and automatic registration into a sex offenders’ list.
Handini was only 17 at the time, but he will was tried as an adult.
On Dec. 8, 2021, the victim left the Shakespeare Club at 3:00 a.m. and was walking to her boyfriend’s home on the other side of the city.
The two men who approached her spoke to her in Arabic, with the young woman trying to call her boyfriend to scare them away.
“Stop, I don’t know you!” she screamed while on the phone with her boyfriend. He also heard crying before the phone call was cut off.
Annab had grabbed the woman and forced her into the dead end.
While the two men raped her, the vicitm, whose real name was not provided, screamed for help.
One witness heard the woman’s screams and kicked Annabi. The two convicted rapists then fled.
Police used video surveillance to track the men, who were arrested the next day at a residence they were squatting.
They had been in France less than a year and were working in the construction industry without any official documents. Both were known to be abusing alcohol and drugs.
The victim was a sociology student at the time, but after the rape, she dropped out of school due to the trauma of the attack.
Her lawyer, Maud Betrand, said the woman continues to suffer post-traumatic stress disorder.
“She is afraid to go out and feels like she is being followed ,” explained her lawyer.
