A Thursday night House vote passed a 10-day extension of FISA 702 “foreign collection” after 20 Republicans strayed from the party and refused to renew the surveillance authority for several years.

The GOP lawmakers voted against the wishes of House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and President Trump, who both advocated for a long-term extension of the warrantless spying program.

Several Republican members of Congress called out POTUS for his sudden change in tune regarding FISA considering he was a victim of government abuse when the Obama and Biden administrations spied on his presidential campaigns.

After delaying a long-term FISA extension, Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.) posted a video on 𝕏 explaining the bill he voted against asked for an additional five years.

Journalist Nick Sortor filmed from outside the U.S. Capitol, asking Reps. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) and Burchett why Trump and Speaker Johnson are trying to force the bill through.

“It’s the Deep State,” Massie candidly replied, with Boebert chiming in, saying no government agency is ever going to ask Congress to reduce the power granted to them by lawmakers.

Massie also said he “saw two top-secret documents” that show FISA is actually “getting worse, not better,” warning it can be used against Americans who get on the federal government’s “naughty list.”

Massie shared Sortor’s video, writing, “Last night between midnight and 2am, they tried to pass two bad versions of FISA… Both would have allowed Feds to unconstitutionally spy on Americans. We stopped both versions, but the fight isn’t over. Eventually, it was decided to give them two more weeks to fix FISA.”

“I’m one of just a few Republicans who stood up for your Constitutional rights last night. Woke Eddie promises to go-along-to-get-along. The warrantless spy program on Americans is exactly the kind of thing he’d rubber stamp, so he refuses to debate or take questions about it,” Massie wrote on Friday morning.
