On Monday, 54-year-old Jose Francisco Jovel set his Koreatown apartment ablaze after receiving an eviction notice then rode his bike to the Federal Building in downtown Los Angeles, according to the Department of Justice (DOJ).
Several agencies have offices at the Federal Building, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which processes illegal aliens there.
Jovel reportedly carried shopping bags containing Molotov cocktails and proceeded to throw one through an open sliding door being used as an employee entrance.
He then threw another Molotov cocktail through an open public entrance where people were lined up at a security checkpoint, authorities say.
Jovel was quickly arrested and officers found five more incendiary devices in his bags.
“Jovel described his actions as ‘a terrorist attack’ and said to the officers, ‘you’re separating families’ – a remark commonly made by opponents of current United States government immigration policies. He then yelled for people to ‘start shooting these,’ referring to the officers,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California explained in a press release.
None of the devices Jovel allegedly threw ignited and no injuries were reported.
“Jovel is charged with attempted malicious damage of federal property, and faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in federal prison and up to 20 years’ imprisonment. This is an ongoing investigation and we’ll be looking at adding additional charges,” First Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli stated on Tuesday.
Jovel is scheduled to make his initial appearance in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles on Wednesday.
Federal immigration officers continue to remove thousands of dangerous illegal aliens from American communities, despite an unprecedented surge of physical assaults, threats against their families, and relentless propaganda being pushed by Democrat politicians, activists, and the mainstream media.
