The harrowing episode unfolded at around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday on the Far South Side of Chicago.
A 16-year-old boy reportedly approached a man who was working in the area and demanded he hand over valuables while pointing a pistol at him.
The 27-year-old victim, a licensed concealed carry holder, drew his own weapon and a shootout ensued, a preliminary investigation indicates.
“The shooting appears to have involved an exchange of gunfire. Police recovered two handguns at the scene and found shell casings at more than one location. Bullets also struck the man’s work van,” CWB Chicago reports.
The bandit was struck in the chest and later died at Christ Hospital.
The man was questioned by Chicago police but no charges were filed at the time, according to ABC7.
Wednesday’s incident comes as Democrats in Virginia are moving to disarm state residents via sweeping gun control legislation currently sitting on Gov. Spanberger’s desk.
“If they make it illegal for law-abiding citizens to own guns, criminals still have guns. It doesn’t check them . . . It’s important that everybody has a right to have a weapon,” a man dressed as Batman told BorderHawk.news during a protest in Richmond last weekend.
“People need to be able to defend themselves.”
