Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin announced Tuesday that she’ll be stepping down from her position next week.
According to journalist Nick Sortor, “Tricia was reportedly supposed to leave back in December, but stayed on to help navigate Operation Metro Surge in Minnesota.”
Now, with the Trump administration announcing an end to its large-scale illegal immigration crackdown in Minnesota last week, McLaughlin will no longer serve under DHS Secretary Kristi Noem.
Noem wrote on social media, “Tricia McLaughlin has served with exceptional dedication, tenacity, and professionalism as Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs at the Department of Homeland Security. She has played an instrumental role in advancing our mission to secure the homeland and keep Americans safe. While we are sad to see her leave, we are grateful for her service and wish Tricia nothing but success.”
McLaughlin has been a fierce defender of the Trump administration and Border Czar Tom Homan’s efforts to rid the nation of millions of illegal aliens allowed into the country by Joe Biden.
The departure come as DHS faces a funding lapse with Republican and Democrat lawmakers failing to come to an agreement on financially backing the department before leaving for a week-long recess.
Democrats refused to fund DHS and ICE unless the GOP bowed to drastic reforms that would essentially render immigration officials powerless to deport the horde of invaders, which was a key factor in the American people elected President Trump in 2024.
McLaughlin gained popularity among Trump supporters for her bold press conferences and refusal to play nice with the left-wing press during her many mainstream media appearances.
There could be a political future for the soon to be ex-DHS official who said she “wouldn’t rule anything out” when asked last month if she’d consider running for office.
