Former head of the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) antitrust division, Gail Slater, issued an exclusive statement regarding her exit from the department.

Her Tuesday message comes at the heels of Senate Democrats pressing Attorney General Pam Bondi on details about her exit.

“As an American patriot, I take national security to heart,” said Slater Tuesday to journalist and Infowars host of The American Journal, Breanna Morello. “This is why I am deeply concerned by allegations from online trolls that I somehow misrepresented the national security implications of the HPE/Juniper merger last year.”

“To the fullest extent of my knowledge, no conversations took place between me or the antitrust division and U.S. intelligence agencies during my tenure.”

Slater continued.

“Further, national security concerns were not raised in the June 27, 2025, consent decree entered into between the DOJ and HPE. Neither did HPE raise national security concerns in related court filings.

I am very tuned into the policy behind this issue having worked with the White House team that advised POTUS to ban Huawei from our nation’s networks by Executive Order in 2019. This decision narrowed the competitor set available to US consumers in networking markets, but it was the right decision from a national security standpoint.

The 2019 Executive Order created implications for mergers like HPE/Juniper and I would have welcomed the opportunity to discuss them with administration officials prior to June 27 last year. In light of my expertise and my TS/SCI clearance, I was qualified to speak both to the antitrust and the national security aspects of the merger.”

Last week, Slater announced she was leaving the role with “great sadness” after serving less than a year.

She added she was grateful to President Donald Trump for the opportunity.

In December 2024, President-elect Donald Trump announced Slater for the role of Assistant Attorney General for the DOJ’s Antitrust Division while highlighting her past roles and experience.
