The disturbing incident unfolded in Arcadia on Feb. 22, but Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) just confirmed the statuses of both suspects this week.
The Arcadia Police Department (APD) said officers responded to a reported physical disturbance at SuperMatt Laundry where they found a male victim suffering from a “significant laceration consistent with a machete wound.”
The suspects had already fled the scene, but APD and the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office tracked their vehicle down and arrested two males following a traffic stop.
Rafael Hurtado-Martinez, 29, and Yeri Flores-Salgado, 33, were both charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
Both men are illegally present in the U.S. and Hurtado-Martinez is already in ICE custody at the Central Louisiana ICE Processing Center in Jena.
“Flores-Salgado also has felony convictions for vehicle theft and damage to property and was sentenced to five years’ probation in March 2025,” an ICE spokesperson told immigration news outlet Border Hawk.
“They both crossed the southern U.S. border illegally under Biden’s catch and release policy that allowed millions of unvetted illegal aliens to be let loose on American streets.”
Flores-Salgado is still being held without bond at the DeSoto County Jail on a probation violation charge.
“ICE’s 287(g) program in Florida clearly demonstrates how federal and local law enforcement agencies can work together to make America safe again,” ICE stated.
“Partnerships with law enforcement are critical to having the resources we need to arrest criminal illegal aliens across the country. We have had tremendous success when local law enforcement work with us, including more than 40,000 arrests in Florida.”
Under Gov. Ron DeSantis, law enforcement agencies across Florida have signed at least 327 partnership agreements with ICE under the 287(g) program — more than 40 other U.S. states and territories combined.
