A restaurant in New York City hosted a special event for singles to bring virtual AI companions on Valentine’s dates.
Footage from the Same Same Wine Bar in Manhattan shows several patrons sitting at tables wearing headphones and seemingly alone, except for a phone mounted on a stand at their tables with EVA AI chatbot apps launched.

Eva ai hosted an in-person Valentine’s pop-up dubbed EVA AI Café, described as the world’s first AI dating café where users could take their AI companions out on a real-life “date.”

“Over February 11 and 12, the dimly lit space was filled with patrons seated at tables for one, their AI companions propped up on phone stands,” reports FastCompany.com. “Attendees could bring their own existing AI partners or speed date from a selection of 100 characters.”
According to Fast Company, organizers said the event was intended to “normalize AI companionship for those already interested in it, or curious about trying it,” and not meant to replace human interaction.
However, the AI dating scene more so resembles a bleak dystopian hellscape where human connections are replaced by robot companionship, the kind of nightmare societies Philip K. Dick and other sci-fi writers once imagined, but which now appear to be already here.
