In Kabul, explosions were heard alongside anti-aircraft fire and gunfire throughout the city on Monday, March 2nd.

This came as the Afghan Defence Ministry stated that “fighting is still ongoing” against Pakistani forces. The neighboring countries have clashed along the frontier since Thursday, February 26th, when Afghanistan launched a border offensive in response to Pakistani airstrikes.

Afghan deputy government spokesman Hamdullah Fitrat stated:

The latest casualties include three children killed Monday in a crime committed by the Pakistani military regime in Kunar province.

At least 39 civilians have been killed since Thursday, according to the Afghan government.

UNICEF (the UN children’s agency) said it was “alarmed” by reports of child casualties in the conflict and called on all sides to “exercise maximum restraint and protect civilian lives.”
