Image Credit: Chip Somodevilla / Staff / Getty Following President Donald Trump announcing that Iran has requested a ceasefire Wednesday morning, the Islamic Republic responded, rebuking the claim.
Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said Trump’s claim Tehran asked for a ceasefire is “false and baseless.”
The President said this earlier in the day:
Iran’s New Regime President, much less Radicalized and far more intelligent than his predecessors, has just asked the United States of America for a CEASEFIRE! We will consider when Hormuz Strait is open, free, and clear. Until then, we are blasting Iran into oblivion or, as they say, back to the Stone Ages!!! President DJT

Despite Trump mentioning “Iran’s new regime president,” it is not clear if one even exists. The Wall Street Journal said Wednesday that “Iran has a new supreme leader but not a new president.”
While Trump said he will consider the allegedly requested ceasefire once the Strait of Hormuz is “open, free, and clear” he also said 13 hours earlier that it is not Washington’s job to reopen the energy transit chokepoint.
“Sadly, The Trump We All Knew & Loved No Longer Exists…”
