An illegal alien with a lengthy rap sheet and deportation history was killed in a shootout that left two deputies wounded in Texas this week.

The incident unfolded at around 8:30 a.m. on Sunday morning in Bexar County.

Bexar County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) deputies respond to a call at a residence well-known to authorities who have been summoned there at least 22 times since January 2024, KSAT reports.

An adult female called 911 after her estranged lover broke into the home and forced her to flee with her two young children, Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar explained during a press conference.

Deputies encountered 38-year-old Jose Arley Fernandez Solano hiding in a room inside the home.

The suspect reportedly threatened to kill himself and law enforcement, who determined he was armed with a pistol and rifle.

Fernandez Solano refused commands to show his hands, and during an ensuing struggle, he managed to fire a single round that passed through one deputy’s hand and into the hip of another, Salazar stated.

The suspect was shot several times and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Fernandez Solano, a citizen of Costa Rica, had felony warrants for a previous domestic disturbance in October, a prior charge for injury to a child, a conviction for bodily injury to a family member, and slew of other arrests.

“I can’t go into too much detail on how many arrests and when he was deported and how he came back — some of those, we don’t know,” Sheriff Salazar stated. “Based upon the number of records I have in front of me right now, we could spend the better part of this afternoon just going line by line on this.”

“Suffice it to say, this gentleman does have what we consider to be an extensive criminal history. Quite frankly, he’s not somebody who should have been in this country, committing crimes or otherwise.”

Both deputies were hospitalized with gunshot wounds but are expected to recover.
