Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) is leading a fight to release Jeffrey Epstein files, alleging a billionaire hedge fund manager, John Paulson, is funding ads against him.
The claim, posted on X this week, accuses Paulson, linked to Epstein’s black book, of donating to Speaker Mike Johnson and the NRCC while backing a super PAC called MAGA Kentucky.
Paulson, 69, heads Paulson & Co. Inc., a New York-based hedge fund he founded in 1994. He gained fame for betting against the housing market before the 2008 crash, earning billions. According to the Council on Foreign Relations website, Paulson is a member and former board member.
Massie’s post highlights Paulson’s donations: $44,300 to NRCC and $3,500 to Mike Johnson for Louisiana on March 28, 2025, per recent records. Earlier, on September 24, 2024, he gave $41,300 to NRCC and $3,300 to Johnson. Massie suggests this ties Paulson to efforts against his Epstein transparency push.
The MAGA Kentucky super PAC, tied to Paulson, Paul Singer, and Miriam Adelson raised $2 million since late June, including $250,000 from him, per recent reports. Massie calls the PAC’s name deceptive, hinting at political sabotage.
Massie, a Trump critic, is using a discharge petition to force a House vote on the Epstein files. Speaker Johnson sent the House into recess early, avoiding the vote. The issue splits Republicans, with Massie pushing for accountability.
Paulson’s Epstein link stems from his name in the financier’s black book, a list of contacts under scrutiny. No criminal charges tie him to Epstein’s crimes.
The battle over the files continues, with Massie saying failure to have full Epstein disclosure will cost republicans in the midterms.
Massie, undeterred by the ad campaign against him, is pressing on.
