
Clause 20 of the Employment Rights Bill currently up for a vote in the British Parliament would punish pub-owners who fail to prevent patrons from offending employees with their political views, crude remarks or outright harassment.

Dubbed the “Banter Bill,” the legislation states employers have to take “all reasonable steps” to prevent employees from “non-specific harassment” “by third parties” while working at said establishment.
Essentially, businesses would be liable for what drunk loudmouths say in front of staff members if they feel “harassed” by the remarks.
The UK’s Free Speech Union says “contentious political views” could fall into the category of harassment if a woke employee were to take offense.
Staffers will now be allowed to claim harassment if they simply feel offended, which is another level to laws already on the books such as “spreading malicious rumors” or “picking on or regularly undermining someone.”
The New York Post joked the Orwellian bill could result in pubs being “forced to employ ‘banter bouncers’ to reprimand the patter of those who’ve had a few too many.”
Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner said earlier this week that the “landmark reforms will kick in within months.”
Americans should take heed that the slippery slope of restricting free speech can quickly move from the internet to the real world if the modern left is allowed to enact their authoritarian measures.
