One of Russia’s biggest oil refineries has been hit by Ukrainian drones, in the latest attack on Russia’s energy infrastructure.
Lukoil PJSC’s Norsi refinery, which processes around 340,000 barrels of crude oil a day, was targeted in the attack on Sunday.
Bloomberg reports, “Falling debris from drones damaged two facilities at Lukoil’s refinery in the Nizhny Novgorod region about 450 kilometers (280 miles) east of Moscow, with the blaze later contained, local governor Gleb Nikitin said in a Telegram statement on Sunday.
“The Novogorkovskaya thermal power plant and several residential buildings were also damaged, according to Nikitin. “Currently, the energy supply to consumers is being restored,” he added.
“Separately, air defenses shot down 19 drones in Russia’s Leningrad region, including near the Baltic port of Primorsk, according to regional governor Alexander Drozdenko. Fuel leaked after a drone fragment hit one of the reservoir tanks, with ‘consequences already eliminated,’ he said on Telegram, adding that the oil pipeline wasn’t damaged.”
Ukraine has stepped up its attacks on Russian industry, in a bid to curb increased revenues from commodity exports as a result of the Iran war.
The Norsi refinery had previously been a target for Ukrainian attacks.
The most recent attack came at the end of 2025.
Overnight, Russian drones also attacked Ukrainian targets on the Black Sea, including the city of Odesa.
