Video captured the shocking moment a Massachusetts ex-mayor was brutally stabbed outside his marijuana dispensary by a homeless repeat offender, suffering serious injuries.

The incident unfolded Monday around 5 p.m. in Fall River, as the town’s former mayor Will Flanagan, 45, was filmed walking outside near his Cosmopolitan Dispensary when he was assaulted by a man who proceeded to stab him twice in the neck.

Surveillance footage shows Flanagan walking down the sidewalk when a man carrying a knife runs up and flings himself toward him from behind.

Flanagan raises his hand to defend himself, as the man continues slashing, and he stumbles and falls as he tries to get away, at which point the assailant flees.

“I saw a guy mumbling some words. He came out, brushed up against the guy, stabbed him on the face and the neck. He was bleeding everywhere,” a witness described to WCVB.

In a Facebook update Monday, Fall River police wrote, “Mr. Flanagan sustained significant injuries and was transported to an area hospital, where he is currently listed in serious but stable condition.”

Fall River police on Tuesday morning announced they’d nabbed person of interest Corree Gonzales, 31, as a suspect in the stabbing.

“During the detainment, Gonzales assaulted Fall River Police Officers, resulting in his arrest and subsequent charges of Assault and Battery on a Police Officer (4 Counts),” revealed Fall River PD.

Media outlet Fall River Reporter noted a review of the suspect’s record found numerous arrests and charges.

Gonzales reportedly pled not guilty at an arraignment hearing Tuesday, and is being held without bond pending a mental health evaluation.

The New York Post reports Flanagan became Fall River’s youngest mayor when elected in 2009 at age 29, but was recalled in 2014 after he reportedly showed a gun to his political opponent in what was seen as an intimidation tactic.

The Fall River Reporter noted in Dec. 2024 that Flanagan had switched party affiliations from Democrat to Republican, citing disagreements with the Party’s “woke policies.”

“It’s tragic. He’s a dad. He has two beautiful little girls,” stated friend and employee of Flanagan’s Ryan Connearney. “It’s shocking. It’s something that you don’t want to believe. It’s unbelievable, actually.”
