A San Francisco police officer was injured when a group of men swarmed the mayor’s vehicle this week, according to reports.
The shocking incident unfolded at around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday evening in the seedy Tenderloin neighborhood.
Several vagrants reportedly blocked an SUV transporting Democrat Mayor Daniel Lurie, his driver, and a San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) officer serving as a security guard.
Mayor Lurie and the officer stepped out of the vehicle and asked the men to move out of the way, Mission Local reports.
The men initially complied, but then one of them began “talking gibberish,” the officer later stated.
Witness footage shows a black male grappling with the officer in the middle of the street.

Mayor Lurie can be seen walking away from the altercation before the suspect suddenly slams the officer onto his back, causing him to strike his head on the pavement.
The suspect then climbs on top of the officer, pinning him to the ground as other men approach and watch.
SFPD officers responded to the scene and reportedly arrested the assailant as he repeatedly yelled, “F**k you.”
Another man was also taken into custody for undisclosed reasons.
Photographs shot by a local reporter show the injured officer being treated by medical personnel.
The San Francisco Police Officers Association announced it was “relieved to hear that Mayor Daniel Lurie was not injured in the violent incident that occurred Thursday evening in the Tenderloin.”
“We are grateful that the officers assigned to the mayor’s security detail acted swiftly and courageously to protect him in a dangerous and unpredictable situation.”
