“Under the leadership of @POTUS and at the direction of @SecRubio, the State Department will lead a foreign assistance program that prioritizes our national interest,” the official State Department 𝕏 account wrote.
In his statement, Rubio said the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) failed to “advance U.S. interests, promote economic development worldwide, and allow billions to stand on their own two feet.”
He continued to accuse the agency of creating “a globe-spanning NGO industrial complex at taxpayer expense” and failing to meet development objectives while fomenting instability and anti-American sentiment.
“USAID marketed its programs as a charity, rather than instruments of American foreign policy intended to advance our national interests. Too often, these programs promoted anti-American ideals and groups, from global ‘DEI,’ censorship and regime change operations, to NGOs and international organizations in league with Communist China and other geopolitical adversaries,” the secretary of state explained.
Rubio wrote, “This era of government-sanctioned inefficiency has officially come to an end. Under the Trump Administration, we will finally have a foreign funding mission in America that prioritizes our national interests. As of July 1st, USAID will officially cease to implement foreign assistance. Foreign assistance programs that align with administration policies—and which advance American interests—will be administered by the State Department, where they will be delivered with more accountability, strategy, and efficiency.”
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) tried to scare the public by claiming “the IRS or the intelligence agencies” could be shut down next.
Of course, many Americans would love to see the corrupt agencies disbanded.
Samantha Power, former USAID administrator, warned CNN’s Anderson Cooper that severe funding cuts to critical programs will drastically reduce the agency’s capacity, potentially leading to millions of deaths worldwide.
Former Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush also called the USAID shutdown a “colossal mistake.”
The globalists are clearly upset that the grift is over and they’ll no longer be able to use the agency to rip off U.S. taxpayers under the guise of foreign assistance.
