The suspect who killed three people inside an Austin, Texas, Target store on Monday had a history of mental illness and a long rap sheet, prompting many to blame the city’s Democrat policies for the tragedy.
Police on Tuesday identified Ethan Nieneker, 32, as the suspect who shot four people at a North Austin Target parking lot, killing a 4-year-old and her grandfather, as well as a Target employee, with the girl’s grandmother sustaining minor injuries.
The New York Post has more details on the suspect’s apprehension after he stole the grandparents’ Toyota vehicle:
Nieneker later crashed the Toyota into a Volkswagen before coming to a rest on top of an Infiniti SUV. He then assaulted the Volkswagen’s female driver, hijacked the vehicle, and drove off, according to police.
He was eventually taken down with a Taser about 20 miles away in the city’ south end after throwing a brick through the home of a friend of his from Bible study and wandering naked through a backyard, all of which was captured on video surveillance.
To top it off, Nieneker told police he was Jesus when they arrested him, and did not give a motive.
Nieneker had a “mental health history,” Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis told reporters.
After Nieneker’s extensive criminal history came to light, highlighting various violent felonies from 2011-2019, social media users questioned why the Austin justice system had allowed the obvious danger to the public to remain on the streets.
AUSTIN MAN who killed 3 — including a child — in Monday’s Target parking lot shooting had a long, violent record in Travis & Williamson counties.
